Missouri prison system makes tree donation to Joplin |

Joplin city officials gathered on an overcast morning in Cunningham Park to mark a donation of 155 trees to the city from the Missouri Department of Corrections. “It’s going to be able to resupply our stock of trees that we need to be able to work on our plans to replenish the community,” Mayor Mike Seibert said. The city lost about 18,000 trees in the 2011 tornado, parks director Chris Cotten said, and 12,000 to 13,000 trees have since been put back in the ground across the community. “This is just a great way people are still thinking about us,” he said.
