Martha Stewart will host an hourlong, daily syndicated show with a live audience when she gets out of prison, her multimedia and home fashions company said last Wednesday. Audience members and special guests will "participate and interact with Martha" during the tapings, and topics will include cooking, entertaining, decorating and home renovating, according to a statement released by Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Inc. The show is to be launched in the fall of 2005. Stewart gets out of prison in March and is to complete her house arrest the following August. Representatives of Mark Burnett Productions and NBC Universal Domestic Television were also scheduled to attend a news conference announcing the deal. Stewart and her ex-stockbroker were convicted in March of lying to investigators about why she sold ImClone Systems Inc. stock in 2001. In all, she was convicted of four counts including conspiracy and making false statements. Stewart, who is appealing her conviction, is serving a five-month prison sentence at a minimum-security federal prison for women in Alderson, W.Va. Martha Stewart Living shares were up $1.91, or 8.4 percent, at $24.79 in afternoon trading on the New York Stock Exchange -- near their recent 52-week high of $25.51. |
