Cold Springs closing to not directly impact Augusta County inmate labor use

Augusta County's administrator said the closing of the Cold Springs Work Center in Greenville will not directly impact the county.

Administrator Pat Coffield said the county and the cities of Waynesboro and Staunton have used inmates in Middle River Regional Jail's work release program for the past several years and will continue to do so.

However, next month's closing of the Virginia Department of Corrections facility will affect 56 Cold Springs employees, and impact several commonwealth of Virginia agencies, who have used the Cold Springs inmates for work, according to a Virginia Department of Corrections spokeswoman. The agencies affected include VDOT, the Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center in Fishersville and the federal U.S. Forest Service.
