There are still no plans for the provincial government to construct a pre-trial detention centre for women and youth in Happy Valley-Goose Bay. The plans for such were first brought about by the Provincial Government in 2009, with $2 million being allotted for the building of a centre at the time. However, in an emailed statement to The Labradorian, a spokesperson for the Department of Justice and Public Safety, outlined reasons why the project isn’t moving ahead. Read More. |
