| DAT wraps one-year Downtown partnership with state corrections dept. |

The Downtown Action Team's partnership with the state's probation and parole department has been a life-changing experience for many offenders, say its organizers. And the year-long relationship has resulted in more than 1,000 of them working on Downtown Albuquerque projects. DAT says that's been a big boost to the corridor and its businesses, too. There have been 1,151 probation and parole offenders who have completed about 7,000 hours of community service Downtown in the last 12 months. Projects have included trash pickup, graffiti removal and tree planting. Haven Scogin, a probation and parole officer and the community service project coordinator for the New Mexico Corrections Department, said the program has helped beautify Downtown and has deterred criminal activity through increased officer presence — something he says Downtown businesses have appreciated.
