COLUMBIA — To keep up with technology in law enforcement, the Boone County Sheriff's Department will explore the use of body cameras and decide whether they are necessary and useful for the department. Boone County Sheriff Dwayne Carey brought this up in the county’s 2015 budget work session for Proposition L on Monday. Proposition L refers to the one-eighth-cent law enforcement services sales tax that was passed by Boone County voters in 2002. Money collected from the tax is used to support law enforcement and judicial operations. Carey said the department will test the use of two body cameras with deputies first to see how they work before buying them for the entire force. The trial will begin either late this year or in early 2015. The department will then decide by next summer, in time for the next round of budget talks, whether to buy more cameras. Read More. |
