A female inmate in the Hall County, Neb., Jail has been charged with sexually assaulting two inmates in the same cell block.
Melissa L. Kulms, also known as Melissa Moreno, 37, of Hastings, was charged with three counts of third-degree sexual assault and one count of assault by a confined person for four incidents involving two women.
All of the incidents occurred between Nov. 1 and last Tuesday.
Hall County Chief Deputy Sheriff Chris Rea said the sexual assaults were discovered by a deputy who was investigating a minor physical assault involving Kulms and one of the women.
The woman reported that Kulms had grabbed her from behind as she sat at a table in the common area of the cell block. Both women fell over and the victim struck her leg on the table. She suffered some bruising on that leg, Rea said.
In addition, the victims of the sexual assaults told the deputy they had been touched in an inappropriate sexual manner by Kulms, Rea said.
Hall County Corrections Administrative Assistant Holly Plejdrup said Kulms was in the jail on holds from Adams County and for a parole violation.
Kulms' bond was set at 10 percent of $7,500 and her preliminary hearing was scheduled for 11 a.m. Jan. 27.
