Authorities suspect two Oregon State Penitentiary inmates of stealing identities to set up phone accounts, then billing their victims for unlimited collect calls. Investigators have found at least two victims, both women, and are trying to determine how the inmates got access to their personal information, said Perrin Damon, a Department of Corrections spokeswoman The two women might have been volunteers at the maximum-security prison, prison officials said. The inmates have been placed in disciplinary segregation. Stacia Dahl, a Qwest spokeswoman, said the inmates managed to get names, Social Security numbers and addresses. "In this case, we were able to fully resolve the charges for the victims," she said. Chances are the inmates were working with someone on the outside, officials said. |
