| Assaults by Inmates on Corrections Officers are on the Rise |

DANNEMORA, Ny.- A recent rise in the number of assaults by inmates on correctional officers has officers worried and calling on New York State’s Department of Corrections to take action. Sharron Charland is the wife of a correctional officer who was assaulted by an inmate in February of 2012 at Bare Hill Correctional Facility, a medium security prison in Malone, New York. "Because of the assault, my husband suffers from a traumatic brain injury, PTSD, and visual field defects," says Charland. “He was forced into early retirement and there's not a day that goes by that he's not in pain.” The inmate, who was convicted of the assault, was serving a 25-year to life sentence for a double murder.
