COXSACKIE — Union leaders and membership from the New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association (NYSCOPBA) lined up on the side of Route 9W with picket signs early Wednesday morning. The picket of approximately 100 corrections officers was the result of the suspension of an officer assigned to Greene Correctional Facility who was involved in an internal investigation after a female officer was attacked, according to NYSCOPBA. The union questioned the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision’s (DOCCS) reasoning for suspending the officer. According to a release from NYSCOPBA, the attack, which occured on Oct. 21, was allegedly committed by an inmate named Omar Richardson, who has currently been incarcerated for 13 years.
