The New Jersey Department of Corrections’ Office of Training will hold a graduation ceremony on Monday, November 10, 10 a.m., in the Patriots Theater at the War Memorial in Trenton. NJDOC Commissioner Gary M. Lanigan will administer the Oath of Office to the 79 trainees who comprise the Basic Course for State Correction Officers, Class 232. The members of Class 232 completed a rigorous program that covered a wide variety of areas related to law enforcement. Thirty NJDOC employees who recently have been promoted also will be recognized. The guest speaker will be Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno, who was sworn into office as the state’s first Lt. Governor in January 2010. Ms. Guadagno served as a federal prosecutor, an assistant attorney general in New Jersey, the deputy director of the Division of Criminal Justice and as sheriff of Monmouth County before her election as Lt. Governor. Class 232 represents 16 counties throughout the state. Twenty-four trainees hail from Essex County and eight reside in Middlesex County. Other countries are represented as follows: Bergen (six), Burlington (six), Camden (three), Gloucester (three), Hudson (two), Hunterdon (one) and Mercer (four). Also, Monmouth (seven), Morris (one), Ocean (three), Passaic (two), Sussex (two), Union (six) and Warren (one). Class 232 includes nine individuals who have served in the military – six Army, one Marine Corps, one Navy and one Air Force. There are a total of 27 members of Class 232 with college degrees. Seventeen trainees are from law enforcement families; 12 are second generation, and five are third generation. “The Office of Training provides corrections personnel with the skills necessary to successfully complete their tasks and to upgrade the care, treatment and social reintegration of adult offenders committed to our facilities,” Commissioner Lanigan noted. “I applaud the work of the instructors, and I congratulate our graduates and wish them long and satisfying careers.” |
