14 dead state prisoners finally find resting place in Hillsboro

HILLSBORO — Esiquio Rodriguez spent eight years waiting in a cabinet for a proper burial.

His ashes were the oldest in a growing collection of unwanted cremains in the Montgomery County Courthouse.

Fourteen inmates who had died at nearby Graham Correctional Center have gone unclaimed since 2006 and had ended up on a shelf in Coroner Rick Broaddus’ office cabinet.
