| NMU hosting Corrections Officer Academy |

Starting January 26 of next year, Northern Michigan University's Public Safety Institute will be hosting a 320-hour Corrections Officer Academy at its Jacobetti Complex. This academy is part of a newer program started by the Michigan Department of Corrections. This allows Michigan universities to become regional academies for corrections officers in an effort to make sure area prisons have enough staff on hand. "The State of Michigan went to a regional academy in hopes to boost the staffing," said Kenneth Love of NMU Public safety Institute. "There are several hundred openings in the State of Michigan right now for corrections officers. We have 90 just in the Upper Peninsula alone and 500 throughout the state." Read More. |
