| Corrections officers rescue bus driver, passenger |

A group of corrections officers heading for training at the Attica Correctional Facility found themselves in the right place at the right time recently, when they rescued the occupants of a small school bus that had slipped into a ravine in southeastern Erie County. It happened along Route 39 in the Town of Sardinia the morning of Oct. 30. Six officers were in cars traveling behind the bus, whose driver had pulled to the side of the road to let other vehicles pass, according to James Miller, director of public relations for the New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association. The rear tires of the bus appeared to lose footing and the bus went down the embankment, flipping onto its side as it slid into a small ravine, Miller said. The officers immediately pulled over and got out of their cars. Andrew Griffey and Daniel Drzymala stayed on the roadway to direct traffic, while Todd Rice, John Southworth, Mark Pagels and David Bobseine ran down into the ravine to help those on the bus.
