| Corrections officers support Knott Co. colleague shot in line of duty |

Dozens of officers with the Kentucky Department of Corrections packed a Knott County courtroom Thursday to show support for a colleague shot in the line of duty. The court hearing was for Rocky Wicker, Sr. He's accused of shooting at Brian Melvin and three Probation and Parole officers who were trying to serve a warrant on his son. Wicker is charged with attempted murder and wanton endangerment. Danny McGraw, who is the Little Sandy Regional Complex Senior Captain, said he wanted to be at the hearing to support a man who is like a brother to him. "I know I can go and do my job and I know that I got family. They are more family than they are coworkers," said McGraw. Department of Corrections Commissioner LaDonna Thompson say the officers want to send a message about the dangers of their jobs. "You saw them in there with their vests on. There is a reason that they wear those vests. It is to protect them because they are at risk every day," said Thompson. Read More. |
