COXSACKIE >> A female officer at the Coxsackie Correctional Facility was pulled into a cell by an inmate this week, thrown onto a bed and punched in the face, marking the second attack on a female officer at a Greene County prison in less than a month, according to the union representing state corrections officers.

In the other case, a female officer was assaulted by an inmate on Oct. 21 at the Greene Correctional Facility, also in Coxsackie. The suspect hid in a supply room closet at the medium-security prison and then attacked her as she walked in, said James Miller, the director of public relations for the New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association.

In the latest assault, the female officer was escorting Anthony Cooper, 29, early Monday after he was placed under “keep lock” status for disciplinary reasons, Miller said. As Cooper entered his cell, he turned quickly and grabbed the officer by her forearms, pulling her into the cell with him and throwing her on the bed, according to the union spokesman.
