SPOKANE, Wash. - On Tuesday we reported on a property on W. 9th Ave. in the lower South Hill that had been condemned by the fire marshal and the tenants were vacated. The property owner is Arlin Jordin who is currently serving a rape sentence in the Washington State Penitentiary. We began to investigate whether an offender is able to run a business from prison. According to the State Attorney General's Office the state generally does not prohibit inmates from owning property or having business interests outside of prison, provided those activities do not violate their judgment and sentence or Department of Corrections Policy. The DOC policy states that inmates are prohibited from entering into any contract while in confinement. In the case of Arlin Jordin, he entered prison in his previously established role as a landlord. The DOC responded to his case saying that "because of the way he has done business, he does not appear to have violated any policies. However prison personnel is aware of the concern and he is being closely monitored." Read More. |
