| Communities see economic potential in proposed prison |

LITTLE ROCK — Travis Plummer of Waldron sees a proposed 1,000-bed state prison as a potential economic boon for Scott County, which has had a hard time keeping residents from going elsewhere for jobs. “There are just not many options for people to work here locally,” said Plummer, vice president of the Waldron Industrial Development Board. “We lose a lot of workers to Fort Smith, Booneville, Greenwood.” Scott County is one of 16 locations in consideration as possible sites for the proposed prison. Correction officials say the maximum-security facility would cost up to $100 million to build, have a $20 million annual operating budget and employ 250 people.
