| Sheriff warns of potential release of inmates |

DOWNTOWN AKRON — In January, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office may begin releasing low-level criminals from the Summit County Jail. Summit County Sheriff Steve Barry asked Summit County Council during budget hearings Nov. 24 to add another $3.6 million to the budget his office is submitting for 2015 in order for the Sheriff’s Office to raise staffing levels and avoid having to release inmates. Operating budgets submitted by all county offices for next year are currently under consideration by Council, which heard second readings of legislation for approving and adopting them that evening.
