| Pennsylvania seeking bids for former state prison in Hempfield |

HARRISBURG — As the state seeks a buyer for the closed state prison in Westmoreland County, local officials are hoping a business out there is eyeing the property. SCI Greensburg, in Hempfield, employed 370 people before it was shuttered, along with SCI Cresson in Cambria County, at the end of June 2013. Replacing the two older prisons with a newly-built facility in Centre County would save Pennsylvania money, said Corbett administration officials, who said a stabilizing prison population ensured the state would not need to reconsider. Now the site has been rezoned for commercial use, and the Corbett administration is soliciting bids for the 103 acres and 285,000 square feet of buildings.
