Prosecutors are declining to file charges in the death of a 28-year-old woman at the Gaston County (N.C.) jail last summer. They said it appears she died as a result of cocaine in her system. Yolanda Evett Patterson was found unconscious in a jail cell, where she was being held on shoplifting charges. She had complained of shortness of breath when she was stopped and was treated by emergency medical workers before police took her to jail. Prosecutors said the paramedics did nothing wrong, and it appears they did everything they could to treat her properly. |
