| Inmate protests prison corruption with hunger strike |

An inmate has begun a hunger strike to protest corruption and violence inside the South Mississippi Correctional Institution. Danny Singleton, a 67-year-old inmate, called the prison in Leakesville “a sinkhole of corruption and despair.” Offenders like him who “are not affiliated with any name gang are caught in the vicious cycle of violence and corruption,” he told The Clarion-Ledger. “Many staff members are members of these various gangs.
