| Four finalists vie to be first Sarpy corrections director |

Sarpy County is down to four finalists in its search for a corrections director: two retired Omaha police officers; a former Sarpy County deputy who manages the Pottawattamie County Jail; and Sarpy County’s chief deputy sheriff, who is retiring. State law requires that counties with more than 150,000 people create a corrections board and hire a jail administrator. The law was meant to maintain jail oversight while giving sheriffs in large counties more time “to pursue more fully their primary duties as law enforcement officers,” according to the statute outlining the law’s intent.
