| Ward County Commission to Monitor Progress of Jail Compliance |

In the wake of the state's investigation into the Ward County Jail, the facility will have to comply with new standards from the Department of Corrections. Now, the County Commission is working with the Sheriff's Department to make sure the jail stays up to standard. The North Dakota Department of Corrections' report showed a lack of providing medical procedures for inmates, as well as a lack of training for correctional officers. The report culminated in an investigation into the events of the first week of October 2014, when 25-year-old Dustin Irwin, an inmate in the jail, died shortly after being transferred from Ward County the Burleigh County Unit.
