| Self-help groups prepare Las Cruces inmates to re-enter society |

LAS CRUCES >> The holidays may have passed, but Carol Jones, marketing director at a Las Cruces assisted living center, still has warm thoughts of a special kindness shared with her residents by the most unlikely of visitors: prison inmates. New programs in place at New Mexico's prisons, including the Southern New Mexico Correctional Facility, west of Las Cruces, allow some inmates to prepare for their release while giving back to the prison and outside community. As part of that, inmates at New Mexico's 11 prison's completed 11 community service projects over the holidays. One of the recipients was Desert Peaks Assisted Living and Memory Care, 5525 Cotton Bloom Court, which coincidentally also is going through its own administrative changes to improve the lives of its residents.
