| Yakima County jail nears end of nearly $6 million security upgrade |

YAKIMA, Wash. — Come spring, the most violent offenders in the Yakima County jail will find themselves under closer surveillance with less room to cause disturbances. Making good on a long-awaited project to heighten security at the four-story, 950-bed jail downtown, crews are now installing heavy cell doors with small ports that allow inmates to be handcuffed before leaving the cell. Two large riot doors that seal off each end of the fourth floor, where the most serious offenders are kept, are also being installed. Old control panels with worn toggle switches and obsolete parts are being replaced with touch\screens that will allow remote access and better surveillance of inmates. Read More. |
