| Auburn prison appears in need of technology upgrades |

Upon seeing keys suspended from a rope outside a perimeter tower at Auburn Correctional Facility, an Auburn man took a photo of the scene and posted it on his Facebook page earlier this month. The story of the keys spread widely on social media, with some readers ridiculing the photographer for potentially exposing the facility to a security risk or unnecessarily getting workers there in hot water with their bosses. Others defended him for bringing the situation to the public's attention. The state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision didn't have much to say about the matter, other than to state some unspecified protocol was not followed in this case and to insist that at no time was anyone other than authorized relief staff able to gain access to the base of the tower.
