| Commissioner on prison: ‘It will be torn down’ |

SUNBURY — A fire which ripped through the 139-year-old Northumberland County Prison on Wednesday has apparently brought an end to the languishing lockup. An emergency Northumberland County commissioners and prison board meeting was held Thursday to address the issue of the prison, which commissioner Chair Vinny Clausi classified as “completely shot.” “It cannot be rebuilt,” Clausi said. “It will be torn down.” He appointed Commissioner Rick Shoch to contact neighboring counties to see if there is an interest in building a regional prison.
