More than 250 people have been killed in Iowa in cases related to domestic violence over the past decade. Iowa made national news last last year because of a domestic assault with a fast-food sandwich, which police said resulted in a broken nose for the victim. Domestic violence is an important concern in Iowa. Iowa's prisons are overflowing. The institutions were running about 12 percent over capacity last week, according to the Department of Corrections. Over the next decade, prison populations are projected to rise by 39 percent. That's roughly 3,000 more people behind bars.
