| Auditor seeks 'full picture' in financial probe of Nebraska Corrections |

LINCOLN — New State Auditor Charlie Janssen is wasting no time in wading into a controversial subject. Janssen, who took office on Jan. 8, said he has launched a fast-track financial audit of the troubled Nebraska Department of Correctional Services, which has been plagued by overcrowded prisons and a scandal involving the mistaken early release of dozens of inmates. The Corrections Department has already been the subject of two investigative reports by the State Legislature and a study of potential prison reforms by a blue-ribbon panel of state leaders and experts from the Council of State Governments.
