| Surge in suicides has jail looking for answers |

NEWARK – A surge in suicide attempts over the last three years — including a 33 percent spike from 2013 to 2014 and two deaths from suicide this year — has Sheriff Randy Thorp and his department searching for solutions. In 2012, four suicide attempts were reported at the Licking County Justice Center. In 2013, the number ballooned to 12, and the number jumped to 18 in 2014.
