A second corrections officer has been accused of having an inappropriate relationship with an inmate at the Charlotte County (Fla.) Jail. Sheriff's officials have fired Officer Na'Shara Price for violating a department violation of associating with criminals. An internal affairs report released last Tuesday states the Price may have had a relationship with inmate Donald Parker, a high-risk inmate at the jail currently charged with two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer. The 21-year-old inmate is also serving nine years in prison for armed robbery and has been found incompetent to stand trial on previous violent charges against law enforcement officer. A series of phone calls between Price and Parker were recorded from the jail between August and October. Despite his violent past, two corrections officers are now accused of being too friendly with Parker. Cpl. Kathleen Hill, who is out on bond and awaiting trial for allegedly killing her husband in October, was also accused of having a relationship with Parker. Both female officers were recorded in telephone calls with Parker saying, "I love you." Hill, 31, was fired after the Oct. 22 shooting death of her husband, Shawn, 32. Now, Price is out of a job as well. "I recommend withdraw of appointment," Capt. Anthony Penland wrote in Price's report. "This agency does not need or want this type employee as a member." Price is accused of giving Parker prepaid phone cards and a pair of Nike Air Jordan sneakers. The 23-year-old officer also gave him hair cuts and a lot of her time. Price denied ever engaging in sexual relations with Parker and a voice stress analysis agreed. Though Price denied having an intimate relationship with Parker, she did admit to sharing information about her domestic situation and talking to Parker about having a relationship once he was released from prison. Parker will not be released until at least 2009. |
