Execution of three death row inmates in Oklahoma has been put on hold as the US Apex Court debates whether the use of sedative midazolam is 'cruel and unusual punishment'. When other lethal injection drugs were not available, many states started using midazolam. However, there are some who say that the drug does not properly sedate inmates before they are given drugs that stop their heart and respiration. The stay levied by the US Supreme Court has challenged the state's lethal injection protocol. The fourth inmate, Charles Warner, who was also initially part of the legal challenge, was executed in the starting of this month. Read More. |
