| Snow forces prison lockdowns in northern Illinois |

SPRINGFIELD — The Super Bowl Sunday snowstorm left five Illinois prisons on lockdown status Monday. Heavy snowfall across the northern third of the state left a number of guards and other prison employees unable to report for work, said Illinois Department of Corrections spokesman Tom Shaer. With the facilities shorthanded, officials enacted lockdowns to reduce prisoner movement. At the Pontiac Correctional Center, an estimated 10 inches of snow left some roads to the maximum-security prison impassable.
