Prisons are not fun places and they pose difficulties for staff and inmates. The staff of the Illinois Department of Corrections successfully meets these challenges better than any comparable-size prison system in the United States. Parolee Daniel Montgomery’s unchallenged statements in Mr. Tom Loewy’s column of this week contain numerous claims too outrageous to go unanswered. He offered no facts to support his stories of Menard Correctional Center inmates being killed or ignored when asking for medical attention. No such facts exist.
