| State exceeds goal for corrections officer academy |

LANSING – The Michigan Department of Corrections has exceeded its goal for the first batch of new corrections officers to be trained at reinstated state-run academies. MDOC spokesman Chris Gautz said 300 corrections officer recruits will be trained to police state prisons at an academy that kicks off March 30 at the Michigan State Police Academy in Dimondale. And 50 recruits will be trained beginning March 16 at the closed Hiawatha Correctional Facility in the eastern Upper Peninsula.
