| UPDATE: CCI homicide victim identified |

The name of the inmate that died at Columbia Correctional Institution on Feb. 12 has been identified as Jerome A. Scott, age 40. An autopsy was conducted Feb. 13 at the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office. The cause of death has been determined to be by ligature strangulation. The manner of death has been determined to be homicide. A second inmate, age 42, that was involved in the homicide has been identified. This inmate has cooperated with Sheriff’s Office investigators and has provided information that is consistent with the cause and manner of death. The inmate’s identity will not be released until a criminal complaint has been filed by the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office. Due to the complexity and depth of this investigation it is not anticipated that the inmate will be formally charged until the week of Feb. 23. The victim inmate and the suspect inmate were both from the Milwaukee area. The involved inmates were both incarcerated for previous homicide related convictions.
