| $1M boost for S.J. County gang prevention |

STOCKTON — San Joaquin County is expecting an award of more than $1 million for a new program to divert youth away from gangs. The Board of State and Community Corrections recently announced the award that will supplement some existing programs and fund the district attorney's new Project Navigate Constructive Change, a program that will emphasize prevention, education and alternatives to incarceration. “This is great news for San Joaquin County,” said District Attorney Tori Verber Salazar. “This was our first year competing as a large county (because the county reached 700,000 in population).
