Four bills aimed at addressing overcrowding, mental health treatment and oversight of prisons got an airing Friday in the Legislature's Judiciary Committee. The bills, which drew nearly five hours of testimony, are part of a package of up to 10 bills that respond to intense study by lawmakers via a special investigative committee, a performance audit and a justice reinvestment working group. Judiciary Committee member Bob Krist of Omaha said the committee has taken all the input it can from county attorneys, Corrections personnel, advocates and every other stakeholder. Read More. |
