PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island — The Rhode Island Department of Corrections and the National Education for Assistance Dog Services are celebrating the 10th anniversary of a program that allows inmates to train and care for puppies that are learning to become assistance dogs. NEADS CEO Gerry DeRoche says staff and inmates at the John J. Moran Medium Security Facility in Cranston have been instrumental in helping his organization fulfill its mission of providing highly-trained dogs to individuals who are deaf or disabled.
