| Arkansas Prison Program Pairs Inmates, Mentors For Change |

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A faith-based program inside an Arkansas prison matches inmates with outside mentors in an attempt to change the course of inmates' lives. The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports that Pathway to Freedom is housed in a facility operated by the Arkansas Department of Corrections at Wrightsville. The pre-release program serves 200 inmates, violent and nonviolent, and provides a stringent, boot-camp-like curriculum that includes life skills, substance-abuse education, parenting classes, Bible study and work skills. The program began in 2011 after the InnerChange Freedom Initiative under the Prison Fellowship organization based in Virginia closed its Arkansas program because of a loss in funding. Read More. |
