Notorious accused killer Aquil Bond was stabbed during a prison fight with some of Philly's deadliest criminals last Tuesday night, sources said. Bond, 26, was in Frankford-Torresdale Hospital last night with a punctured lung and wounds to his head, left hand, left shoulder and upper left back, said prison spokesman Robert Eskind. The assault happened at about 8:40 p.m. at the Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center, on State Road, Eskind said. Bond was in a common area in a unit for inmates with disciplinary problems. A corrections officer familiar with the investigation said Bond and another man, Michael Upshur, were jumped by a group of eight inmates - seven of whom have pending murder charges - in what appeared to be an organized assault. The attack was brazen, the source said, because it happened right in front of correction officers. Upshur was injured and was in a prison infirmary last week, Eskind said. Bond was likely stabbed with some kind of shank or makeshift weapon. But prison officials have not found a weapon yet, Eskind said. Eskind said the entire unit was in lockdown while an investigation by Northeast Detectives is conducted. So far, no one has been charged in the attack. |
