It takes less than eight seconds to state — The Oklahoma Department of Corrections does not anticipate a return of the Oklahoma State Penitentiary Rodeo. Not now and maybe not ever. “We don’t have any plans at this point to move forward with it,” said Jerry Massie, DOC spokesman. This message is in stark contrast to what McAlester officials believe the DOC is conveying about the possible return. “Our city manager, our city mayor and I have traveled to (Oklahoma City) twice and we have talked to Director Patton over DOC and they seem to be very supportive,” McAlester Tourism Director Kathy Wall said. “However, there are a lot legalities they've got to look into.” Read More. |
