| New parole guidelines anger victims |

Did you know some people on parole can now check in over the phone and can fail two drug tests before going back to prison? Well they can under new parole guidelines in Tennessee. These new guidelines went in effect in July, but no one knew about the changes until recently. The changes are shocking legislators, the DA's office and those affected most by their crimes, the victims. Johnia Berry's mom Joan Berry says, "This is disturbing to us." Joan Berry is disturbed by new parole regulations. Her daughter was stabbed to death back in 2004. The suspect picked up on a parole violation. Berry says, "Had this been in place, we might not have ever found out who murdered Johnia." That man arrested because the Tennessee Department of Corrections was checking up on him. Changes made last August might have seen him slip through the cracks. Those new rules to allow violent offenders to fail two drug tests before going back to jail and let violent offenders to report by phone.
