Gov. Bruce Rauner has his team in place to lead the charge in reforming the state's prison system. The new commission members said they're excited to get to work and they're ready for challenge, even as it's shaping up to be a tough one. Lawmakers, educators and experts - all with backgrounds in the criminal justice system - will be giving recommendations to the Rauner administration on how to fix Illinois' expensive prison system. “I'm hoping that between the governor and this commission, we can not only come up with great ideas,” said Pam Rodriguez, the CEO and president of Treatment Alternatives for Safe Communities. “But we can also support people who are going to institute the change and really benefit from some new understanding of what works in terms of alternatives.” Read More. |
