Inmate admits possessing razor blade at Cayuga Correctional Facility

AUBURN | Shamel Pitt has spent much of his adult life behind bars.

According to the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, Pitt entered state custody on Aug. 11, 2003 at the age of 18 after he was convicted in Queens County of four counts of third-degree robbery. He was released onto parole a little more than six years later in 2009.

Pitt returned from parole to prison on May 24, 2013, after he was convicted in Kings County of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance. He is currently serving up to two years in the Auburn Correctional Facility for selling drugs.

And now, just five months of shy of his earliest possible release date, Pitt faces spending more time in prison.
