By his own count, Eric Machinsky, 20, has been in and out of the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center at least 30 times. “I’m here right now on a two-week stretch for simple assault,” he says matter-of-factly. “I have some issues with anger management and alcohol.” On March 3, Machinsky and about 200 of his fellow ADC inmates participated in the county’s first-ever Inmate Resource Fair, an event held within the jail that gives inmates an opportunity to connect with outside vendors and government agencies that try to help them cope on the outside once they are released in an effort to prevent them from ever going back.
