Authorities say they captured escaped inmate Garrett Terrell Shields on Friday afternoon, about a day after he walked off a Floyd County work detail. Shields, 44, was caught in Atlanta, Floyd County Police Maj. Tom Ewing said. The inmate was with a Floyd County Prison work crew checking drains on Sproull Road near Trimble Way on Thursday when he walked away from his work detail. When officials realized Shields was missing, police were called in to assist in a search. Floyd County Police Capt. Greg Dobbins said dog teams followed a scent into a wooded area off Trimble Way in the area of the Shoals Ferry subdivision but eventually lost the trail. Read More. |
