N.J. State Prison inmate gets 3 years for role in 'Operation Lockdown' bust involving corrections officers

TRENTON — A Newark man serving 45 years in prison for a 2002 murder was sentenced Friday to three year for his involvement in a scheme to smuggle drugs and cell phones into the New Jersey State Prison in Trenton.

Luis DaSilva, 34, will serve the three-year term concurrently to his murder sentence. DaSilva was convicted of fatally shooting a Newark cab driver in the early morning hours of Nov. 4, 2002, authorities have said.

DaSilva was one of 14 inmates and 18 others accused of paying bribes to three New Jersey State Prison corrections officers to smuggle in the cell phones and drugs, officials said.
