Inmate who helped save Rikers Island prison guard from rape gets beaten

So much for chivalry.

The inmate who helped save a female correction officer from being raped was beaten up by a group of other prisoners upset he failed to give them proper credit, a jail source said.

Franklin Johnson, 44, was attacked Thursday after the inmates in his dorm saw a TV report about his rescue based on the Daily News story highlighting his courageous rescue on Feb. 28, the source said.

The inmates were also angry that a group of correction officers had taken up a collection to add money into Johnson’s commissary as a way to thank him. Thursday, Johnson was moved to his own private cell in the same facility, records show. He suffered a minor knee injury during the attack, the source said.
